I was simply left in chronic pain with little help

I had an initial appointment for March 11, 2025 at Great Expressions Westland office for periodontal disease (receding gums). I was already experiencing pain because of exposed nerves, mostly when hot or cold hit the affected area.

They diagnosed what I already knew, but informed me that they don't do the needed procedure at that office (deep cleaning) and referred me to another office. Fine so far. I called that office but was told they no longer accept my Medicare Aetna insurance. So I called back Westland for another referral.

This time I was referred to their Canton office. I called there and was given an appointment for April 22, 6 weeks later. Over the next two weeks, the dull pain I was having worsened to a chronic sharper pain that radiated across my face and into my forehead. I used ibuprofen and other pain relievers which did little to alleviate the pain.

It got so bad one night, I decided to show up to the Westland office first thing when they opened the next morning to get some help. After explaining to the lady at the front desk the migraine-like pain I was experiencing, she informed me she couldn't fit me in the schedule that day. Really?! They are fine with letting a patient suffer?

They can't squeeze me in somewhere in their busy schedule to get this pain numbed out so I can function? But they did schedule me for the next morning. So I dealt with the pain another night. But when I arrived for that appointment, I was given a coating of fluoride to dull the pain and prescribed an antibiotic.

Firstly, the fluoride hardly had no affect on the pain. Secondly, there was no infection. The pain was coming from exposed nerves. An antibiotic was useless.

So I was left with the same pain! And I would have to wait another month for the Canton appointment? As I literally couldn't live with the pain another day, I had to visit my primary care doctor to get some pain medication. Finally some relief!

As I eagerly awaited the Canton appointment, still experiencing ongoing pain, they called me within days of that appointment and informed me the dentist who would perform the procedure would not be in that day and they would have to reschedule. Okay, that's fine. But I expected to get in the next day maybe? Nope, I was told they would reschedule me another two weeks out!

I explained to this lady the same thing I explained to the lady at the Westland office that I have chronic pain and need help sooner than that. She simply said she couldn't fit me in any sooner. I told her that I can't deal with this pain any longer and since they are the ones cancelling my appointment, they should get me in sooner. She didn't really care.

"Sorry, that's the earliest we can get you in". My last words to her was that they "just lost a patient". She didn't seem to care. "That's the best we can do".

If that's the best they can do, they need to do some heavy thinking about patient care and customer service. Because what they put me through is unfathomable. I'm 65 years old and have never been treated that like that in any medical facility.

My honest opinion... Great Expressions should be called Great Disappointments!

If Great Expressions is your only option for dental care, I would advise you to get a pair of pliers and pull out your own teeth.

I have been trying for months to resolve a lack of service issue with the local Great Expressions office (Cascade). The customer service at the local office points to the HQ in Michigan.

The HQ in Michigan points back to the local office. You can't connect with the Michigan office because of the elaborate IVR setup they have.

When you are able to connect with what should be a person, their voicemail is full. I had to scour the internet for the CEO's email address and only after reaching out to the CEO did I get a response from the organization.

Horrible customer service. I have billing issues with the Cedar Hills office in Jacksonville, FL and cannot get a return call or reply to my email. Totally disgusted and moving from Great Expressions.
